2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Change Follows Mixed Reception
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.
Ismailer stated that the team is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
Trend of Key Hires
The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire text from the president's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to mind and reimagined the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, he starts with us on next week.
His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving him soon. We are all eager to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
David
